Cost of Consultation

We are pleased to offer an initial interview, or response in person, by email or telephone giving general advice. To give more specific advice as to your situation on such items such as the merits of a severance package, whether or not your employer was justified in firing you, or whether or not quitting your job would amount to constructive dismissal, we offer a detailed consultation.

In the free initial response, we will advise as to what other information we require to comment on your situation. We usually require your resume and any employment contract (it could be called a letter of engagement or confirmation of employment) In particular we need to know if anything was discussed regarding payment on termination.

Our fees vary, but as a rule of thumb, a consultation on a severance package where the total amount received is under $10,000, or whether or not you have been properly fired or can claim constructive dismissal, we charge $500 plus HST (for a total of $560.00).  If the severance package offered has a value over $10,000, would have an initial cost of $750 plus taxes for a total of $840.00.  You will have to check with your accountant or tax advisor to confirm that this amount is tax deductible.  Often the employer will agree to pay this amount.

Though we prefer to take payment by way of cheque or through Pay Pal, when the issue is your entitlement to a severance package, we can usually arrange to take payment after you have received the severance package.
